Champagne Meets The Streets At Voltaire

The best way to liberate one’s self from this season’s chilly embrace is with a visit to a Tudor era prison. However, not just any old, dark, forgotten cellblock will do the trick. Voltaire, the drafty prison-turned chic champagne bar, is throwing open the wrought iron gates and warmly welcoming Spring this year with an innovative Tastes of the Street celebration. Located in the belly of the Crowne Plaza London – The City, Voltaire embraces London’s vibrant and evolving street food culture with a unique showcase of carefully selected food trucks paired with choice champagnes from the bar’s extensive collection.

Running now through May 22nd, Voltaire will welcome three resident food trucks to park alongside the famous vaults and offer up some of London’s most unique and delicious street food options. The first such resident food vendor is The Cheese Truck, famous for their scrumptious gourmet grilled cheeses served from a bright yellow truck. Visiting Voltaire on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings, March 25th through April 10th, The Cheese Truck exclusively serves artisan cheeses and local produce. Specialties include the Classic Keen’s cheddar, a savoury blend of Ogleshield and fresh mixed onion, or the spicy Queso Chihuahua cheese with chorizo and rocket. The Cheese Truck’s delicious grilled toasties are perfectly paired with Voltaire’s Pommery’s Falltime Blanc de Blancs Extra Dry Champagne.

On April 15th, a new resident truck finds a home at Voltaire, serving unique fully loaded burgers. Bill or Beak is a western twist on a British original, delivering hand crafted burgers made of either duck or chicken, piled high with extra toppings and tantalizing sauces. Visitors are invited to sample the Bill, a burger of shredded duck and pork packed with fresh vegetables and Vietnamese dressing, or the Beak, grilled chicken topped with the rich umami of anchovies, Caesar dressing and croutons. The tenders of Voltaire suggest warming Pommery Wintertime Blanc de Noirs Champagne for the Bill and the crisp and refreshing Pommery Summertime Blanc de Blancs Champagne to pair with the Beak.

Voltaire welcomes the final resident food truck on May 6th. Randy’s Wing Bar presents the classic American bar food: spicy, savoury, marinated chicken wings. Paired with Pommery’s Springtime Brut Rose Champagne, Randy’s Wing Bar welcomes the spring season with a variety of tasty flavour  blends. Randy’s Asian Wings feature a toasty blend of crushed peanuts and sesame seeds. For a classic favourite, try Randy’s Buffalo Wings, paired with cool bleu cheese and celery. Don’t forget to order up some fresh chicken scratchings with rosemary salt.

Voltaire celebrates these unique Spring Tastes of the Street until May 22nd. Queues build quickly, so reservations are suggested for this incredible showcase of fine champagnes and delicious street truck specialties.
