A Cocktail Palace in London at the Voltaire Bar
Granting easy access to London, the Crowne Plaza London The City is an ideal choice for business or leisure travellers alike. Contemporary in design the lavish hotel boasts a collection of 204 stylish rooms and suites, set upon the foundation of a former palace and prison – an interesting juxtaposition of modern luxury and history.
During the reign of King Henry VIII, the Bridewell Palace (now home of the Crowne Plaza Hotel London The City) housed a collection of stone vaults that held prisoners of the Crown. Today this space bears the name of the famous exiled writer Voltaire. While still maintaining some of its unique architectural charm, the Vaults at Voltaire has understandably undergone a vast improvement in style and comfort in recent years. Today, Voltaire Bar is one of the premier champagne and cigar lounges in London, serving its honoured clientele within lush and exclusive settings.
Beneath the fortified ceilings, guests will find a bright and unique cocktail lounge. Traditional patterns and materials mesh with bright jewel tones to deliver an opulent and lavish atmosphere. Guests will also discover plenty of small alcoves and seating spaces where couples can cosy up to one another over the large selection of Pommery champagne. These “vaults” are perfect for a small gathering, capable of hosting up to 12 guests. Each vault comes with a personal guard, standing by to assist guests with any special requests. A far cry from the guard duties of decades past. Adjacent to the vaults guests will discover the Pommery Library, which boasts the largest collection of Pommery Champagne in all of London.
One of the most interesting bars in London, the Voltaire Bar is a must-visit. The bar specializes in champagne and specialty cocktails, including the V Chilli Martini, a spicy twist on the classic martini. This warming drink combines fresh chilli and parsley with dry martini, Tanqueray, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice. Served chilled, this sultry concoction delivers a surprising kick.
